A rua principal é a Atamu Tekena,
a cratera do vulcão Rano Kao,

THE EASTER ISLAND – ONE OF THE MOST REMOTED PLACES OF OUR PLANET
Easter Island is located in the Pacific Ocean 3700 km off the Chilean coast and 4,252 km from Tahiti and belongs to Chile, although its culture originates from Polynesia.
Before you travel to Easter Island change your money already in Chile or Papeete.
The flight from Santiago to the island takes about 4 hours and 25 minutes.
We arrived on a sunny afternoon in December in the small and friendly Mateveri airport.
It is advisable to buy the ticket for visiting the archaeological
sites directly at the airport (cost 54,000 pesos or 40 dollars).
If you do not buy it there you can also buy it at the tourist office in the town center. The seller points out that the Ranu Raku and Orongo sites can only be visited once with the ticket.
The capital of Rapa Nui, as the locals prefer to say, is Hanga Roa, a small town of about 6,000 inhabitants. The main street is Atamu Tekena,
where there are shops, car rentals, cafes, souvenir shops, the Kali Kal Folk Show
headquarters and other activities.
Nearby there is a small harbor with anchorages and restaurants, also diving equipment you can rent here.
Here at the water there are also two natural baths, which are often used by the population.
The great attraction of Rapa Nui for the foreigners (a native told me that for the Chileans the beach of Anakena is the main attraction), however, are the archaeological sites where most Moais are exhibited, these sculptures of monolithic stone blocks.
We spent 3 nights and 4 days on the island. We rented a car and it was very easy to visit the sights.
We met almost no cars outside the village on the roads, but in some places they are very bumpy
and caution is required with free-roaming animals such as horses and cows.
After visiting the island we came to the conclusion that the most interesting sights are the archaeological sites of Rana Raraku, which are also called Moais factory,
or Ahu Tongarik with his 15 Moais side by side near the beach (our favorite),
the volcano crater Rano Kao,
and the beautiful beach of Anakena (with expensive kiosks), with beautiful Moais – Ahu Nau Nau.
There is also a very beautiful, almost hidden beach near Anakena: Ovahe.
In conclusion it is important to emphasize that Rapa Nui for us is a place worthfile to visit if you continue to travel to Tahiti and New Zealand or if you are really ecstatic about the idea of getting to know the Moais up close!
A nice souvenir of the island is also a stamp in the passport at the post office in Hanga Roa.
The island also has a very special old cemetery.
Another program may be to attend Mass on Sunday morning in the church near the craft market, which takes place in the Rapa Nui language!
Tip: Caution – everything is very expensive
