Vienna – a Danube metropolis
Since about 5 years Vienna is now my adopted home. The numerous universities and their study programs attract students from around the world to the capital of Austria. In the ranking of the most livable cities in the world, Vienna is represented at the top since years. Not only due to the enormous cultural supply and cleanliness, but also due to the numerous recreational areas in and around Vienna.
The attractions which every visitor should see are the following ones: the Schönbrunn Palace, where Princess Sissi lived, and the Belvedere Palace. Moreover, the entire first district with the St. Stephen’s Cathedral, the Vienna State Opera, the Hofburg, the Parliament, the Town Hall, as well as numerous museums, shopping facilities and many wonderful cafes form another major attraction of Vienna.
Those who want to escape from the big city life of Vienna for a brief moment, can do this by making, for example, a trip onto the Danube Island or into the Prater Park. The Danube Island with its length of over 20km is a very popular destination for leisure activities and especially in summer for swimming. The Prater, however also offers a large green area but also a freely accessible amusement park. Another highlight of the Prater is the Swiss house, the most famous beergarden in Austria.
Vienna is also a very good location for other destinations. From Vienna you travel in just a few hours to Prague (Czech capital), Budapest (capital of Hungary) and in less than 1 hour to Bratislava (capital of Slovakia).
