Dubai, a pérola do Oriente Médio (Parte I)/Dubai – Perle des Nahen Ostens (Teil I)/Dubai – Pearl of the Middle East (Part I)

Dubai – Perle des Nahen Ostens (Teil I)

Fonte/Quelle/Source: https://www.dubai-online.com/maps/

Dubai – Pearl of the Middle East (Part I)

The United Arab Emirates is a federation with six emirates, founded on February 12, 1971. Another was integrated in 1972. This federation has 8.5 million inhabitants. The Emirates are: Abu Dhabi (capital), Dubai, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah, Ajman, Sharjah and Umm al-Quawain and are all located on the Arabian Peninsula in the Middle East. The United Arab Emirates has approximately 700 km of coastline.

The city of Dubai has 2.2 million inhabitants and is a hub between the east and the west of the planet.

We visited Dubai in January, a month that is considered “winter” when the average temperature is 22 ° C, very pleasant. ATTENTION: Avoid visiting Dubai between June and August as August is the hottest month when the temperature can reach 48 ° C !!!

Erich had already visited the city and I had not yet. Our first tour was the “climb” of the Burj Khalifa (currently the tallest building in the world,

see Blogpost to this visit here), from where you have a 360 ° view of the city.

Dubai is located on the banks of the Persian Gulf and is intersected by an inlet called Dubai Creek.

Fonte/Quelle/Source: https://www.dubai-online.com/maps/

The financial business center is called Downton and is home to the Burj Khalifa complex, which is integrated into the Dubai Mall, a huge shopping center with 1,200 shops, which also houses the Dubai Aquarium, a very interesting attraction.

In the Dubai Mall you will see the signs for the aquarium and for the outdoor area with the huge pool in which the show “Dubai Fountains” takes place.

Here, surrounded by the Dubai Mall and the Emmar Mall, there is a promenade with many restaurants and cafes.

Dubai is a big city with many sights. If you are visiting Dubai for the first time I recommend using the hop-on hop-off buses. There are two lines: Cityseeing (with four routes) and the Big Bus (with three routes). We used the latter, we bought the ticket online (you have a 10% discount) and completed the three routes in one day (red route – city tour, green route – beaches and blue route – marina). In this way you get an overview of the city and can decide what you finally want to visit. With this type of bus you can get on and off as you like.

Dubai’s first impression is a modern city with many towering buildings and long, wide avenues.

Imagine that Dubai has built 300 skyscrapers in 10 years!!!! Erich commented that it looked like they were being launched from the ground like rockets …

What we see is that there are many buildings in the city, we have the impression that Dubai is expanding rapidly!!!! Perhaps this hurry is to prepare everything for the EXPO 2020 ( due to the coronavirus was moved to 2021)that shows the city’s interest in becoming even more attractive to the eyes of the world!

Despite all the modernity there is still the old part with the old markets in Dubai, the so-called “souks”. There are those who only sell spices, others with souvenirs, others only with gold and so on … (You will need a lot of patience to deal with the very intrusive behavior of the sellers, you have to negotiate the price as it is part of their culture !).

In this old city of Dubai, you can go on the river on abras, boats that resemble a bit the style of Venice gondolas.

Here you can also visit the Dubai Museum,

Heritage Village

and Diving Village.

Burj Khalifa, o prédio mais alto do mundo/Burj Khalifa – höchstes Gebäude der Welt/Burj Khalifa – tallest building in the world

Fonte/Source/Quelle: https://www.businessinsider.com/jeddah-tower-worlds-tall-skyscraper-2018-2

Fonte/Source/Quelle: https://www.businessinsider.com/jeddah-tower-worlds-tall-skyscraper-2018-2

Burj Khalifa – tallest building in the world

Dubai is one of the most important cities in Asia.

It is famous for the beautiful buildings with bold designs, masterpieces of modern architecture.

Among these buildings is Burj Khalifa,

an architectural project by the American Adrian D. The Burj Khalifa has 160 floors and you can visit the floors 148, 125 and 124.

From the top you have a 360 degree view over the city.

I recommend you to buy the ticket online. When we visited this building, I saw that there was a long line to buy tickets.

Since we were booked online, we were in a small queue, only five people stood in front of us.

Access to the top of the Burj Kalifa is via the Dubai Mall, “G” floor.

On the way to the elevator you will pass through a long corridor where you can see the exhibition about the building history, which started in 2004 and lasted until 2009.

At the end of the visit on level G, you will go through a souvenir shop

and there will be also a digital presentation about the specific features of the building: how will the 25,000 windows of the building be cleaned, how does the air cooling of the building work, how does the Burj Khalifas outdoor lighting work, how the elevators, etc. etc.

For those who cherish  works of engineering and in any case want to see Dubai from above, this visit is very worthwhile.

O vídeo a seguir apresenta essas primeiras impressões.

as velhas cidades históricas

HIGLIGHTS OF A CHILDHOOD DREAM – PART 3

From Singapore our trip took us via Kuala Lumpur to another, foreign and exotic destination, Kathmandu in Nepal.

It was a complete new experience for us, almost shocking, frightening, scary and at the same time we were  absolutely curious to know, what knowledge and impressions probably this part oft he world will present to us.

After all the different geographic, climatic and cultural impressions on our journey so far, a whole new world awaited us here with ist chaotic traffic, noise, dirt, the still visible consequences of the devastating earthquake,

the everywhere not to be overlooked cable improvisations,

smog and also a lot of poverty. The following video may try to visualize these first impressions.

Nevertheless, this country, which seems so “organized chaos” to us, offered a hidden, pleasant charm. I would suppose that the aura of the prevailing Buddhism with its temples,

The  Stupen with their peaceful atmosphere,

imposing religious manifestations,

the old historical cities

and finally, the behavior of people themselves could be the deciding factor, but everyone really needs to evaluate this for him-/herselves.

The absolute highlight here in Nepal, however, was for us the flight along the Himalayan Mountain Giant chain with incredible views of the highest mountain in the world, Mount Everest … an simply ingenious, unforgettable experience.

After these eventful, exciting days in Kathmandu and Nepal I did not miss the chance to enjoy an Everest beer before we left.

Our tour took us now to the United Arab Emirates, a greater contrast in terms of climate, religion, progress, wealth, architecture and future orientation is absolutely unimaginable to Nepal.

From our hotel window in Dubai we could see the BURJ KHALIFA,

the highest skyscraper of this earth with 828 meters height. In 55 seconds you will be catapulted to the observation decks on the 124th and 148th floors with the world’s longest lifts,

from where you can enjoy a breathtaking 360o view like from a plane.

Very impressive also the Dubai Fountain, water and music in perfect harmony in front of an impressive architectural and futuristic backdrop.

Dubai fascinates with all its attractions, innovations and projects, it is not my first visit here and Marcia and myself are sure to visit Dubai after the EXPO 2020 again to be amazed … progress PUR.

In the near future we will focus more on Dubai in a BlogPost and present our impressions in more detail.

We also made a day trip to Abu Dhabi,

threw a quick look at the Louvre Museum Abu Dhabi and Marcia was very impressed by the splendor of the interior of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.

The United Arab Emirates were the last stop before we returned to the starting point of our round the world trip, London,

it was the end of November 2018 when we left Brazil, now we have the end of January 2019.

We now have a very happy feeling about all of our adventures that we experienced on this massive tour.  We are also very glad having done the all tour in healthy and fit conditions.

It was a very strange feeling to be back where everything had started.

A look at the world map with our route leaves us with a certain gratitude

and also a little bit of pride.

My long cherished childhood and youth dream finally came true.
